(Bob and Carolyn Allen, Springfield, VA)
Dear Friends:
We are Bob and Carolyn Allen of Springfield, Virginia. Bob has run his own business in Washington, D.C. for nearly 20 years. Carolyn is a free-lance writer with a regular column for www.Meridian Magazine.com and has an internet business. (Learn more about us HERE) We’re saving for retirement and Church missions, putting kids through college, and still have teens at home.
Like everyone we know, the economy has affected our savings, income and family budget. All of us want and need to stretch every dollar to the limit and are doing everything we can to create a little more cash. Not fun, but it’s just the way things are these days. After testing the MyHarvestAmerica.com online grocery shopping service for our own family, we just had to share the good news that it’s for real!
An Honest Review of MyHarvestAmerica.com by Bob and Carolyn Allen
When a good friend we trust told us about MHA (My Harvest America) we agreed to check it out, although it sounded pretty fishy. She said we could save 10% to 50% on everything from toothpaste and personal/hair supplies to spaghetti sauce, cereal, pickles, canned vegetables, soups, etc. All the non-perishables. Plus there was a cash rewards program (like with our credit card) that would earn us free gas or cash.
We spent some time on the site, but It seemed “too good to be true.” When we mentioned it to friends, they brushed it off as well.
After all, the prices were so ridiculously low ... and the free FedEx delivery made it seem even more impossible. Come on!
But ... since almost everyone we know is anxious to save money in any way possible ... and there is the possibility of a little extra cash with this??? Well ... Hey! Who wouldn’t want MyHarvestAmerica.com to be true???
Our Curiosity Got the Best of Us! We Did a Quiet Test Drive!
After several days of due diligence and scouring the internet for more information, scam alerts, e-mailing leaders and talking to those who were already loving it (fellow church members that we trust), then listening to conference calls, etc. we signed up.
The joining fee of $39.95 was not too outrageous, and we could cancel in 3 days if we wanted to. (There’s a picture of their lawyer with the business owners. How many businesses do that?) So, it seemed a small price to check out being able to help ourselves, friends and family ... plus the cash rewards program.
You can start shopping as soon as you sign up! Very cool.
It was SO fun and SO easy to go grocery shopping on the computer! What usually takes several hours to drive down to our discount store, shop, stand in line, bag the groceries (because we save money doing it ourselves at that store), then load them into the car, then drive them home and into the garage ... well we did ALL of that in about 20 minutes!
The program was a snap to learn, and you could easily see how much you were spending, as the total updated with every item placed in the shopping cart. Wow! What a cool way to budget! I couldn’t believe how little the total was!
The selections were terrific -- as much or MORE of every item than we could ever need. Brand names galore of products that we use and love -- and some that we love but that have always been “pricey” and saved for special occasions. .
I knew it would take two weeks for delivery, and since they were items I didn't need immediately, that was OK. It reminded me of ordering food storage with Church friends , or ordering from a mail catalog, as you knew you wold have to wait a bit.
I paid by credit card, although I was not charged until the order was shipped.
Ten days later I got an e-mail with a FedEx tracking number. And sure enough, the next day, there was a huge box of groceries sitting on my front step when I came home from work!
